Biodiversity is super important for keeping ecosystems healthy. Take coral reefs, for example. They’re one of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth, covering less than 1% of the ocean floor but providing shelter and food for about 25% of sea life, including around 4,000 fish species. Coral reefs help humans too; they protect coastlines from storms and provide jobs and food for local communities. Wetlands are also crucial for biodiversity. They act like shields against hurricanes and storms by soaking upwind and water. Sadly, humans are harming biodiversity. Climate change is making the Earth warmer and adding chemicals to the air. This leads to warmer oceans and melting ice. We’re also cutting down forests and causing pollution by burning oil and gas. Overfishing, pollution, and rising ocean temperatures are destroying coral reefs while building houses and roads is ruining wetlands. If we lose biodiversity, we might miss out on discovering new organisms that could help us develop new medicines in the future.

Project Eco is my solo school project to help people understand why biodiversity matters. As a 6th grader at Whitefish Bay Middle School, I want to share important information about the different plants, animals, and ecosystems that make up our world. I also want to encourage everyone to help protect biodiversity by donating to support conservation efforts. With your support, we can work together to protect our planet and all the amazing life it holds. Every little bit helps, and together we can make a difference for a healthier Earth! Thank you for being a part of Project Eco!
